Shoegaze and indie rock quartets Semaphore and Bonsai Trees are making their first trips to Canada from the US on this summer's Leave and Learn tour. June 14th sees the band's coming into Toronto at The Cavern Bar with Shipley Hollow. Semaphore and Bonsai Trees will be supporting their new EP and LP respectively.
Shipley Hollow - Toronto Math Rock
Semaphore - Brooklyn Shoegaze/Post-Hardcore
Bonsai Trees - Connecticut Indie Rock
A groovy evening with an exciting and very talented lineup of local bands featuring:
MoonJunk - an intergalactic collective of bohemians paying respects to the flower generation, garage gods, surf pioneers, mod moguls, psychedelic psychos and other 60s and 70s sound-makers.
20 Flight Rockers - an ambitious rockabilly-themed band from Toronto. Besides everyone’s favourite songs from 50’s to now delivered with rockabilly passion and energy, the band also incorporates their own original material into their shows.
Lowfills - If you were to cook up a mix of country, americana and singer songwriter, and simmer it at the circus to a soup-like trip-hop, you would find Toronto band Lowfills, a four-piece from Toronto. Some of our songs are fast and rocking. Some of our songs are slow and haunted. Some songs float and shimmer, some get down and groove, and some stagger around like a drunken carny.
Headlining the evening are The Wet Bandits with their catchy melodic punk tunes. They recently released their song “Headfirst”, produced by Nixon Boyd of Hollerado.
Gnarly Horse will be serving up some fuzzed out pop rock for your listening pleasure. Check out their EP Maybe I’m Certain
Female fronted punk band Wordplay are soon to release their energetic and obnoxiously catchy “SHORT” EP, featuring 3 songs within the 5 minute run time. The first track “High” is out now.
Opening the evening are Vegan Academy with a slice of fast paced pop punk and Scott Pilgrim references.
To describe Peter Serrado to any music fan in its simplest terms would be to say that he is a fresh and soulful acoustic pop sound that’s been waiting to happen. With a unique voice that is drenched in a sweet raspy tone, from a subtle whisper to a scream, Peter’s expression is powerful yet intimate, wise yet playful, and evokes the scope of artists such as Bob Dylan, Tom Petty or Jeff Buckley. As a writer, he captures the essence of a sage-like soul, pinning reflective imagery with poignant lyrics against heart-felt emotions that grow out of melodies strewn across genres both past and present.
